While sales have shown steady growth of 24% in the last 2 years, the company is still loss making. Hence most of the ratios like ROE and PAT margins are not too relevant. The company only moved into positive EBITDA in the previous year, and even now the EBITDA margins are under 1%. Hence, the decision will have to be on cash burn and quality issues.
VALUATION METRICS OF SHIPROCKET LTD IPO
Being a loss-making company, the P/E ratio may not be too relevant in this case. That is because the discounting is hard to establish, although the valuations seem to be at par with other similar digital companies in the similar line of business when we look at EV/EBITDA. However, in this case, it is the qualitative issues and the business model robustness that would matter more from an investor perspective.
The company has a scalable business model, so the real advantages of scale may eventually kick in. The challenge is to keep cash-burn in check till then. It is likely to gain from the platform and network effect in the coming quarters. For now, the only thing we have on the table is the scale advantage. Investors putting money in the IPO have to bet on the network effect and the platform effect in the next few years; and take a longer-term perspective.
