THE METHODOLOGY - HOW WE RANKED MID-CAP OUTPERFORMERS

    • The ranking above was done on a combination of short-term and long-term factors. 1-Month Returns and Distance to peak price are the short-term factors.

    • The long-term factors include 1-Year returns and bounce from the yearly lows (resilience); both offering a more structural view of stock performance.

    • Once the best stocks are ranked on these 4 categories, the average rank is computed and the best average ranks are shown in the table to provide a 360-degree picture.

READING BETWEEN THE LINES OF MID-CAP RANKINGS JULY 2026?

Here we look at the rankings statistically, and then at the sectoral themes implied.

    • The top-20 stocks had an average 1-month return of 10.7% and average 1-year return of 45.8%. If you look at the bounce from lows of these 20 stocks, it averaged an impressive 71.3%, while the swing from peak averaged a modest 5.4%.

    • The most prominent sector in the top-20 is Financial Inclusion sector with 8 stocks in the list including Federal Bank, M&M Finance, AB Capital, Paytm, IndusInd, IDFC, AU Bank & LTF. These are domestic stories reflecting better risk channelling of savings.

    • Another key sector in the top-20 was the consumer services space with 3 stocks viz, Nykaa, Kalyan Jewellers, and Lenskart. With customer facing companies focusing on digital footprint, these are the best proxies for investors to capture the shift.

    • Healthcare and IT also had a mid-cap representation. Laurus and Aurobindo Pharma again appeared in the list on their CDMO push, while OFSS and Coforge were seen more as a play for investors unwinding AI stocks in favour of old IT favourites.

    • If you look at mid-cap stocks on 1-month returns; 52 stocks gave positive returns and 48 stocks gave negative returns. On 1-year returns; only 55 stocks have given positive returns, indicating that recent momentum in mid-caps is getting more structural.

    • Finally, a quick look at the stocks ranked low down among mid-caps in overall rank. It is almost a repeat of previous month comprising of; KPIT, Patanjali, Tata Elxsi, RVNL, PI Industries, Jubilant Foods, IRCTC, Godfrey Phillips, and Swiggy.

Clearly, it looks like investors are gravitating towards mid-caps in search of alpha.
