For FY26, Tata Sons reported lower dividend income, but net profits were up 21.8% yoy at ₹31,961 crore. This was triggered by one-off gains from sale of investments. The dividend payout was 71% higher than the previous year, despite the lower dividend earnings from group companies. These one-off gains more than compensates for the losses of over ₹28,800 crore on the Tata Sons investments in Air India, digital initiatives, and semiconductors. The board of Tata Sons is slated to meet on 18-August, when a final decision on N Chandrasekaran’s third term will be taken.
Government is going all guns blazing on energy security; giving a big boost to oil & gas extraction. It has announced an incentive package of ₹80,000 crore to attract global investors into oil extraction in India, with focus on deepwater extraction. The government incentive program will be used to fund nearly half the cost of drilling the exploratory wells. This is critical as exploration risk is one of the key factors holding back global oil majors, and this should address that problem. Centre is auctioning 18 deepwater and ultra-deepwater blocks by mid-September this year.
While Zepto had got an indicative valuation of $7 billion in its last fundraise in October 2025, it may test waters with a more sober valuation. It is targeting post-money IPO valuation of $3 billion, for its upcoming IPO, for which SEBI approval has already been received. Zepto is the second largest player in the quick commerce market; and while it trails behind Blinkit, it is way ahead of Instamart. Zepto may do a pre-IPO placement of shares to get a better hang of what the market is willing to pay. The IPO comprises a fresh issue of ₹8,010 crore and an OFS of 11.35 crore shares.
According to a recent SBI Research note, the total flows from the recent RBI measures to attract global flows would be in the region of $85 billion. As of 17-July, banks had already garnered a total of $20.7 billion through a combination of FCNR(B) deposits, OFCBs, and ECBs. The total flows are now expected to top $85 billion, by the time the government sponsored scheme ends in September 2026. SBI expects about $70-75 billion to come from FCNR(B) deposits and the balance from OFCBs and ECBs. Uncertainty in the Gulf region and leverage is likely to draw bulk deposits.
The twists and turns in the US-Iran war continue. On Monday, Brent Crude fell sharply to $87/bbl after Trump hinted at a temporary peace deal with Iran. He also added that the US had paused strikes at the request of Iran. However, the Houthi rebels have been blockading the critical sea route around the Bab-al-Mandeb; apart from launching attacks on Saudi Arabia. However, oil & gas flows through the Straits of Hormuz remain minimal. With the sharp fall in the crude oil prices, the USDINR also appreciated in Monday trades to around ₹95.89/$.
For Q1FY27, Coal India reported flat net profits at ₹8,849 crore, even as it announced an interim dividend of ₹5.50 per share. Profits were lower by -19% on a sequential basis. Revenues for the quarter were up 7.7% at ₹46,254 crore, while the EBITDA for the quarter was also flat at ₹14,349 crore. Coal India has fixed 31-July as the record date for the payment of dividend. The stock price of Coal India has been flat over the last 1 year, after a frenetic rally in 2024 and the first half of 2025. Coal India accounts for nearly 80% of the coal mined and produced in India.
Even as Indian trade appears to be hit by supply chain constraints, India’s engineering exports touched $11.5 billion in the month of June 2026. While China may not be big in absolute terms, exports of engineering goods to China saw a spike of 75%. For the June quarter, India’s engineering exports were up 18.1% at $34.1 billion. Apart from China, demand for engineering products also came from Germany, the US, and Oman. Currently, engineering goods account for about a quarter of Indian exports. India’s biggest market for engineering goods remains the US.
China is hitting the world where it hurts; and this time it is once again the supply chain of critical minerals. According to a report by the IEA, export curbs imposed on rare earth minerals imposed by China are disrupting the global energy supply chain as China remains the most dominant owner of rare earth assets globally. According to IEA, these export curbs could hit downstream production of close to $6.5 trillion at risk globally. While global players are trying to de-risk their China reliance, it is not going to happen overnight. More restrictions are likely from November 2026.
