Time Segmented Volume (TSV)
TSV is a technical indicator that examines a stock’s volume and price and compares them to determine if a stock is under accumulation (buying) or distribution (selling). If TSV is moving up, this can indicate that price may follow.

To Buy and To Sell
These are phrases used in placing orders to either buy or sell securities. If you are placing an order to purchase ten contracts of Dell October $40 calls at a limit of 4 5/8 for the day, you would tell your broker you were placing a day order for 10 contracts of Dell October $40 strike calls to buy at a limit of 4 5/8. This gives your broker all the information he or she needs to place the order.

Seed Stock
The shares or stock sold by a company to provide start-up capital before carrying out an initial public offering (IPO).
Sell Side Analyst
An analyst employed by a brokerage house such as Merrill Lynch.
Settlement Date
The date when a securities buyer must pay for a purchase or a seller must deliver the securities sold. Settlement must be made on or before the third business day following the transaction date in most cases.
Share Certificate
A paper certificate that represents the number of shares an investor owns.
Shareholders Equity
The difference between the total of assets and liabilities shown on a company’s balance sheet. Book value is the shareholders equity divided by the number of outstanding shares.
